Phoebie was rescued from the street with a noose tight around her neck — evidence of a desperate escape from somewhere she never should have been. Frightened and alone, our volunteers caught her and brought her in. For weeks we searched and posted, hoping to find her owners, but no one ever came. Then came a surprise: Phoebie was pregnant. We made her comfortable and waited, and in time her sweet litter of pups arrived — every one of them found their forever home. Every one, except Phoebie herself. So we found her a friend instead. Along came Ben, who'd been adopted from our shelter once before, but whose "forever home" didn't last. The moment they met, Ben and Phoebie became instant besties. Ben is short and sweet, always full of character. Phoebie is the quiet one — until the zoomies start, and all she really craves after is a good belly rub. Both are old souls now, dreaming of the day they can run freely in a yard of their own, with no stopping. Rufus is our old boy who never stops asking for walkies — and honestly, how could you say no to this excited, big-hearted dog? We found him wandering the streets, searching for a home that may have simply given up on him. But you'd never know it from meeting him. Rufus is nothing but a bundle of love (and a fair bit of slobber), the perfect companion to guard your heart against loneliness. He's the kind of dog who will make you smile, without fail, every single day. 

A call came in after a huge thunderstorm: a dog lying in the bushes near a local business. Our volunteers went immediately, guided by a caring passerby to where he lay — cold, alone, and soaked through. He didn't stay that way for long. At the vet, his story unfolded: a leg broken at a younger age that never healed quite right, giving him a proud, macho little swagger when he walks. His soft, strained voice tells another story too — of a time he was strangled. But none of that stops Hansie from tail-wagging zoomies that will win your heart in seconds. After his recovery, Hansie came to live with us at the shelter, healthy and full of life — and still waiting for his forever home.
